Chinese New Year gets more bland each year...
This year especially, with the economic recession...
I still go back down to Melaka every year.
This year however, I see no new year decorations in my 'kampung'...
I hear less firecrackers...
I see less lion dances...
And for the first time, Machap Baru did NOT put up fireworks...
Geez....that bad huh...
Weighed down by CNY homework too...
Still, this is the first year my father's family has a reunion gathering...
Ok... now wipe that smirk off your face, don't think this is an easy feat.
We just started from my dad's grandparents, the Chia and Cha family.
Branching down, and down, and down, we've got more than a hundred people!
Some don't even know each other! (Ok, I know most all of them some way or another...)
It's really hard, having to organize an event like this... with all that people.
I challenge anyone to compare the number of angpows they received with me! Rawr! And the food! Hah! It's all Hakka food! Prepared by ourselves! That, I can tell you, is one heck of a task!
"Whoah! Mass Cooking!" ~My bro~My bro and I helped out, making Yong Tau Foo and Hakka Carrot Cake. We cored the
CHILLIES, heck yeah!
CHILLIES! Hundreds of em! Woowh! And ended up with our fingers on fire...
Then, with our burning fingers, we stuffed, well... the stuff, with, um... the stuffing!
And the 'stuff' ranges from taufu, to the chillies, to okra, etc etc etc...
Don't even
TRY to compare any
OTHER Yong Tau Foo with these, these are
THE original home made
Hakka style Yong Tau Foo, not all that crap they sell outside with fishball as the stuffing, even the stuffing for these is home made! And I guarantee that no other Yong Tau Foo in
ANY shop can be compared with these!
Moving on...
Took a break after lunch to pick my aunty and uncle who came from singapore. My uncle actually brought a guitar for me so I could learn to play! It's a nice 3/4 guitar, and he taught me and my bro some of the basics.
Then for the reunion dinner, my, it was crowded with people... and good food!
Don't wanna rant too much. But we all got souvenirs, keychains with 'Chia and Cha family' inscribed on! We ALL are from ONE BIG family! (...and that's only my father's side...)
A few more days in Melaka, and then we're back to home!
Picked up Waikiki the next day, she went back to her hometown too! But that's another story... for another time!
Cheers!
